Mr Brian Devitt is an internationally trained, academic orthopaedic surgeon. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and the Australia Orthopaedic Association. In addition, he holds a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine, a Professional Doctorate of Medicine (MD), and has recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Mr Devitt has a particular interest in sporting injuries including ACL reconstruction, multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction, and hip arthroscopy. In addition, he is highly experienced in the treatment of patients with degenerative conditions, such as knee and hip arthritis.
He has completed three years of fellowship training at prestigious institutes internationally: the first year was a research fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, Vail, Colorado, USA, followed by a clinical fellowship in sports surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada. Finally, he completed two clinical fellowships in Melbourne - the first, a knee reconstruction fellowship at OrthoSport Victoria and the second a fellowship in hip surgery at Hip Arthroscopy Australia.
Mr Devitt is highly experienced in medicolegal issues and has provided reports and opinions for Insurers, Workers' Compensation, TAC and medical negligence cases. He is acutely aware of the difficulties and stresses that patients face when dealing with a legal process. He is a clear and succinct communicator and maintains the highest professional standards, while providing timely, impartial, and clear medicolegal assessments and reports.
