Dr Thomas Cade studied medicine at the University of Melbourne with subsequent clinical training and internship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He was accepted into specialist training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2008, primarily being based at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, with other placements at the Geelong Hospital, Epworth Freemasons Hospital and Northern Hospital.
He completed his research higher degree (Doctorate in Medical Science) at the University of Melbourne in 2017, examining modern methods of managing gestational diabetes, and was awarded an Early Career Researcher Fellowship to expand upon this work. He completed a Masters in Biostatistics (with distinction) through the University of Newcastle in 2019.
Dr Cade’s private practice is located in East Melbourne and he holds private appointments at the Epworth Freemasons Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and Frances Perry House. Previous public appointments have included being Head of Diabetes, Consultant Obstetrician within the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit, and Pelvic Floor Surgeon at the Royal Women’s Hospital.
Along with numerous ongoing research interests, Dr Cade has published locally and internationally on fertility-sparing treatments for endometrial cancer and diagnostic criteria for pre-eclampsia, and he is also a reviewer for a number of local and international journals. He is a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne and regularly examines medical students. He is also on the Board of Examiners for the Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Having completed an Associate Diploma in classical piano while at medical school, Dr Cade still plays regularly in his leisure time. He is an organist at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Camberwell, and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Kew. He represented Victoria numerous times as an open-age hurdler and now enjoys the more eclectic pursuits of powerlifting and Brazilian jiujitsu (at blue belt level). Dr Cade is married with two daughters.
