Dr Tad Gunkelman is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hip surgery, knee surgery and trauma injuries. He runs a private practice in Thirroul, Bowral and Shellharbour, servicing the south coast and southern highlands of New South Wales.
Dr Tad Gunkelman grew up in North Dakota where he received his first Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology / Biochemistry from Vermont’s Middlebury College in 1997. Embarking on a career path on Wall Street, he worked as an Investment Banker but decided to return to his science roots and enrolled at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He graduated with honours in 2007 and commenced Basic Surgical Training in Dublin hospitals. In 2009, Dr Gunkelman emigrated to Australia and was selected to the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s training program in Sydney. He successfully completed this training and further sub-specialisation in lower limb reconstruction and arthroplasty in 2019.
Dr Tad Gunkelman has an ongoing interest in research and orthopaedic clinical improvements, especially as they relate to surgical outcomes and trauma workflow pathways. He has conducted cohort and registry studies, has multiple publications, and has presented his research to peers at both the national and international level.
Dr Tad Gunkelman is available for appointments in relation to independent medical examinations, workplace injuries, transport accidents, public liability matters, total permanent disability and medical negligence claims. He is also available for complex case discussion, file review and telemedicine assessments.
