Dr Simon Lau is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in shoulder, elbow and wrist surgery, shoulder joint replacement using 3D templating software, and patient-specific instrumentation and arthroscopic (keyhole) sports surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, including rotator cuff repair. Dr Lau is a surgeon for both adults and children for trauma and fractures.
Dr Lau began his studies at the University of Melbourne, completing his degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Medical Science. He then completed a postgraduate diploma in surgical anatomy. Dr Lau went on to complete his Master's in Trauma Sciences with honours at the University of London, which led onto his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed his Shoulder, Elbow & Wrist fellowship with Prof Richard Page in Geelong. He then furthered this, working under Prof Christian Gerber and Prof Karl Wiesner in Zurich, Switzerland, at a world class centre for shoulder surgery.
His junior medical years were completed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he worked in traumatic injuries. He now practices publicly at Peninsula Health and is a consultant upper limb surgeon at Victorian Bone and Joint Specialists.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Dr Lau enjoys swimming, tennis, running and spending time with his three young children.
