Dr Slattery is an orthopaedic surgeon, who holds degrees in both Medicine and Law, and has a longstanding interest in medicolegal issues. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a member of the Australian College of Legal Medicine and the Australian Orthopaedic Association Medicolegal Society.
He clinically specialises in surgery of the pelvis, hip and knee, and has undergone fellowship training in Complex Trauma (UK), Hip Preservation Surgery (Switzerland), Hip and Knee Arthroplasty (Switzerland and Australia), as well as sports injuries.
He currently practices at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, The Avenue Hospital, and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. He has previously been an orthopaedic trauma consultant at Royal Melbourne Hospital, caring for the state's sickest and most severely injured patients.
Dr Slattery is highly respected in the orthopaedic community, and is an Australian Orthopaedic Association Director of Training, where he co-ordinates medicolegal teaching for orthopaedic surgical trainees. Dr Slattery is actively involved in many ongoing research projects and is an Honorary Research Fellow at The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and Melbourne University.
Dr Slattery has provided reports and opinions for Insurers, Workers' Compensation, TAC, Comcare, Wrongs Act, and criminal and medical negligence cases. Dr Slattery understands the difficulties which patients face during the legal process, and ensures that communication is open and sensitive whilst remaining impartial in performing assessments.
