Comcare is the national work health and safety and workers compensation authority and is administered by the Federal Government. Comcare administers the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act), which oversees the standards for authorities, entities within the commonwealth, and employees of Australian government agencies. Examples of the entities the Comcare scheme covers are the Australian Government, Telstra and Australian Post.
Comcare assessments should be carried out by an appropriate independent medical examiner with the appropriate qualifications, skills and experience. This is noted within the SRC Act. The medical examiner also needs to be trained in the Comcare guides and apply these for any Comcare assessments.
We have a long history of providing opinions for Comcare matters and this continues to be an essential service we provide to law firms and insurances companies Australia-wide. Comcare assessments have slight intricacies which cause them to differ from standard IMEs or impairment assessments. At Azure Medicolegal, we conduct regular training sessions to keep our consultants up to date with the Comcare guides and inform them on any changes or amendments to the guides. This ensure our standards are maintained throughout the report writing process, and at the end of the day, you end up with a high-quality report.
