Dr Cardoso is a Sport and Exercise Physician, trained through the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians, having worked in the field for over eight years, following varied clinical experience of six years in the public health system and including overseas and interstate. She consults at the Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic, the La Trobe Life Care Sports Medicine Clinic and Sports Med Biologic.
As part of her predominantly clinical consulting role with musculoskeletal presentations, she sees TAC, WorkCover and Defence Force personnel on a regular basis, including assessments and medical reports. She has kept up to date with impairment assessment training, completed through Impairment Assessment Training Victoria in 2019.
Besides clinical work, Dr Cardoso is the team doctor for the Young Matildas national soccer team and has been the team doctor for the national women's basketball team, the Collingwood AFLW team, the Under-20s Melbourne Storm team, and Rumbalara football and netball club. She provides medical cover for sporting events, having worked across 17 sports and team travel internationally. She has published research in the areas of tendinopathy, AFL injuries and iron supplementation.
Dr Cardoso also assists in orthopaedic surgery and spinal intervention procedures and has developed an understanding of orthopaedic surgical management and outcomes and enhanced her knowledge through regular interactions with peer groups and a wide network of allied health practitioners throughout Victoria.
