Clinical Associate Professor Heather Mack FRANZCO FRACS FAICD is an ophthalmologist with a strong interest in medical retinal diseases. She attended medical school at the University of Melbourne, trained in ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, completed a PhD in retinal development at the Howard Florey Institute, University of Melbourne, and completed a fellowship in retinal degenerations at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School.
A/Prof Mack is a Principal Associate at Eye Surgery Associates, a multi-disciplinary ophthalmic practice in Melbourne, where she heads the visual electrophysiology laboratory and clinical trials units. She has provided leadership in 27 clinical trials to date.
She was a board member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists 2011-2020 and was President 2018-2020. She is currently on the boards of Vision2020 Australia and Retina Australia.
She is a co-Facilitator/Assessor for training in AMA 4th Edition, Impairment assessment of the Visual System in Victoria (since 6/2021), and is an Accredited Impairment Assessment Examiner, AMA 4th Edition (2010-present). Government appointments have included the Insurance Commission of WA Catastrophic Injuries Scheme (11/2020-present), consultant to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for ophthalmic health assessments (2017-present) and ophthalmic practice performance assessment (2013); Transport Accident Commission Victoria and Workcover Victoria IIA and JME (2018-present); Member of Medical Panels Victoria (2016-present); and member of the Victorian Surgical Consultative Council 2004-2011.
