Mr Reece Sher is an Australian trained Neurosurgeon with expertise in spinal surgery and neuro-oncology (brain and spine tumour). He is a Victorian based surgeon who has affiliations at Austin, Northern, Cabrini, Epworth and Warringal hospitals.
Mr Sher attended the University of Tasmania where he completed medical studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) and a Bachelor of Medical Science. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia. Mr Sher has undertaken further subspecialty fellowship in complex spinal surgery through a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical (Australian Orthopaedic Association and Neurosurgical Society of Australasia) program at the Austin Hospital.
Mr Sher commenced a Master of Surgery and is currently completing a PhD at Monash University focused on targeted regenerative therapies and improved outcomes in microdiscectomy. He is extensively published in international journals including publications regarding spinal cord compression, MRI assessment of intervertebral discs, basic science, degenerative disc disease and disc repair following microdiscectomy.
Mr Sher is passionate about teaching and engages in regular clinical and anatomy teaching to junior medical doctors, registrars, fellows, allied health and nursing staff at the Austin and Northern Hospitals.
Mr Sher finds balance with numerous outdoor activities, enjoying cross country running, cricket, basketball and bushwalking.
