Mr Josh Petterwood is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. Hailing from Launceston and completing undergraduate training at the University of Tasmania, he graduated with honours. He completed the Orthopaedic training program in Victoria and Tasmania and is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee, hip and shoulder surgery.
Mr Petterwood is based in Hobart and operates privately at the Calvary Hospital, Lenah Valley and Calvary, St John’s Hospital.
Mr Petterwood continues to be involved in research and has a particular interest in utilising the full gamut of medical technology to optimise orthopaedic surgical techniques. He undertakes robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, being involved in the technique since its introduction to the Australian market in 2017. Mr Petterwood uses the Direct Anterior Approach in total hip replacement surgery and utilises pre-operative planning tools to gain greater insights into each patient’s functional spinopelvic anatomy.
As a sportsman himself, he has a keen interest in the treatment of sporting injuries with a focus on arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. Outside of the operating theatre Josh is a father of two young boys and a keen road cyclist.

He is available for bookings in relation to independent medical examinations, workplace injuries, transport accidents, public liability matters, total permanent disability and medical negligence claims. He is an accredited medical practitioner with WorkCover Tasmania for conducting impairment assessments. Mr Petterwood is also available for complex case discussion, telemedicine assessment and file review.
