Dr Ameya Kamat is an experienced neurosurgeon, specialising in the surgical treatment of conditions involving the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. Dr Kamat has a keen interest in treatments that avoid surgery whenever possible, discussing lifestyle modification and non-operative treatments with his patients.
Dr Kamat began his medical education in South Africa, completing his Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand. Dr Kamat furthered his knowledge by earning fellowship to the South African College of Neurosurgeons, and then obtaining a Masters in Medicine from Stellenbosch University.
Dr Kamat has since moved to Australia and completed a Complex Spine Fellowship at Macquarie University Hospital, earning his fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2023. He has published numerous clinical and scientific papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and has also made several presentations on neurological topics at international events.
