Dr Amy Touzell is a fully qualified, Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in trauma, foot and ankle, knee and hip surgery. She has a keen interest in and extensive training in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the foot and ankle.
Dr Touzell completed her undergraduate study at the University of Newcastle, then went on to complete orthopaedic fellowship training in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Dr Touzell continued her specialist orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom, where she spent two years studying the latest minimally invasive techniques in lower limb deformity correction and trauma surgery.
Most recently, Dr Touzell has held consulting roles at Peninsula Health, Frankston Private Hospital, Beleura Private Hospital, Cabrini Brighton and Holmesglen Private Hospital.
Dr Amy Touzell is an active participant in research and has published numerous papers. She is currently undertaking a Master's of Surgery by research and has designed and is currently executing a randomised controlled trial investigating prevention of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome using prophylactic Vitamin C following lower limb surgery. She has also presented at national and international surgical and subspecialty conferences.
Dr Touzell is involved in teaching and training future generations and holds a senior lecturing role at the Monash University. Dr Touzell has also been a strong advocate of a mentorship role within the teaching and training of surgical trainees. She is a member of the Women in Surgery committee with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is the junior doctor welfare officer at Peninsula Health. She also holds a statutory appointment with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) which requires comment and assessment of AHPRA complaints.
Outside of surgery, Dr Touzell is a keen triathlete, having competed in age grouped and the 2005 World Ironman Championships in Kona, and represented Australia in the 2005 Duathlon Championships and in 2012 the Asia Pacific World Ironman Championships. Just to keep things interesting, she also competes in ocean swimming and still manages to keep up with her two children and bike-obsessed husband.
